Dear luzby,

Care2 members rallied in support of endangered elephants in Cambodia, who's habitat was being threatened by a proposed titanium mine. Unfortunately, in spite of incredible outpouring of concern from around the world and within Cambodia, the government has endorsed the titanium mine.

We are incredibly disappointed with the outcome and fearful for what it will mean for the region and for the world. But we aren't stopping the fight »

The claims of the United Khmer Group (UKG) -- the mining company involved -- that revenues will be more than $300 million a year far outpace the market rate for titanium. So far, no comprehensive study has been done and there is no indication these figures are accurate.

Please continue to protest the decision and call for very specific actions to be taken to minimize the impact of the mine on local residents, waterways and wildlife.

  - Demand UKG submit a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment
  - Call for strict adherence to the regulations laid out in the laws on forestry and
mining in the Southern Cardamoms Protected Forest
  - Request UKG work closely with Wildlife Alliance and the government to preserve
and protect as much of this vital corridor as possible

Thank you for continuing to take action and make a difference with Care2 through good and bad. We may have lost the battle, but we refuse to lose the war.

Please help us continue the fight to protect Cambodia's elephants and rainforest »

Thanks for taking action!
