1. Ex-MI Head: Iran has Passed Red Line
by Gil Ronen Ex-MI Head: Iran has Passed Red Line

Former Military Intelligence head, Maj. Gen. (res.) Amos Yadlin, said Tuesday that "Iran has already crossed Israel's new 'red line'" regarding nuclear weapons development.

Yadlin, who is the Head of the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), said that in the summer, Iran will reach a distance of one or two months between a decision and a bomb." That is, it will be able to build a nuclear bomb within a month or two of deciding to do so.

"This is a breakthrough range that will make it very difficult to stop Iran, when it decides to have a bomb."

"Israel's new red line – a problematic definition in itself – enables Iran to build a wide nuclear infrastructure without crossing the line," he explained. "It enables other nuclear activities that are not included in the red line, and makes it possible to reach a bad agreement even without crossing the line that was set."

Yadlin said that without "a drastic change" in the pressures on Iran, it will keep on "buying time" and widening its nuclear program. For Iran to sign an agreement, he said, there has to be a price for not doing so.

Negotiations can succeed, he added, if the U.S. creates a credible military option. This will be achieved if the U.S. prepares for a surgical strike for stopping the nuclear program and makes clear that it will be able to deal with the escalation that will follow such a strike."

2. Erdogan: Going Ahead with Gaza Visit
by Gil Ronen Erdogan: Going Ahead with Gaza Visit

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday said he would go ahead with a scheduled trip to Gaza in May despite US calls to delay the visit, AFP reported.

"There is no question of delaying this trip," Erdogan said on Turkish television.

Washington had urged Erdogan to postpone visiting the impoverished Palestinian territory, saying it would be a "distraction" from US efforts to revive the moribund Middle East peace process.

Erdogan stressed the exact date for his Gaza visit would be set after he visits US President Barack Obama at the White House on May 16.

During a trip to Istanbul over the weekend, US Secretary of State John Kerry said the trip would be "better delayed," urging Erdogan to wait for the "right circumstances".

"It was our feeling in a constructive way that we thought that the timing of it is really critical with respect to the peace process that we're trying to get off the ground," emphasized Kerry.

Erdogan hit back at Kerry's comments in no uncertain terms, saying: "We wish he had not said that."

On Monday, Ankara expressed its dismay with Kerry's comments.

Kerry's statement "is not correct diplomatically," Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc told reporters.

"It is up to our government to decide where our prime minister or a Turkish official will go and when."

3. Netanyahu Meets Hagel – Iran on Agenda
by Gil Ronen Netanyahu Meets Hagel – Iran on Agenda

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel met at the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem Tuesday morning.

Before the start of the meeting, Netanyahu said, "Israel appreciates deeply, the support – the military and security support – that it enjoys from the United States. It reflects a very deep alliance between our two countries and the defense of our common interests and our common values.

"Nowhere are these values and interests challenged more than by the arming of terrorist groups by Iran with sophisticated weapons, and equally, Iran’s attempt to arm itself with nuclear weapons," Netanyahu added. "This is a challenge that Israel cannot accept, and as you and President Obama have repeatedly said, Israel must be able to defend itself, by itself, against any threat."

Hagel responded, saying, "I'm committed to continue to strengthen this relationship, secure this relationship, and as you know, one of the main reasons I'm here is to do that.

"I've had very good conversations the last two days with your defense minister. I had a good conversation with President Peres yesterday. I was able to take a long tour up in the north and the eastern borders here, and once again it reminds me of the dangers and difficulties and challenges. But I believe together, working with our allies and our friends, we will be able to do what is right for your country, my country, and make this region a better region and a more secure region, and make Israel more secure."

Details of the two men's discussion are not known. However, the facial expressions and body language of Netanyahu and Yaalon beside Hagel Monday and Tuesday appeared very relaxed.

4. Assailant 'Anti-Semite First, Madman Second'
by Gil Ronen Assailant 'Anti-Semite First, Madman Second'

"He may be mentally ill but he is, first and foremost, an anti-Semite who attacked a Jew," a French Jewish leader said of the assailant who stabbed a rabbi and his son in Paris.

Meir Haviv, Deputy Chairman of Jewish umbrella group CRIF (Conseil Représentatif des Institutions Juives de France) told Arutz Sheva that the two were stabbed in the throat, and added that "two more centimeters and it would have ended in death."

"With the grace of G-d," Haviv said,  "[the rabbi] is out of danger and his son is also lightly wounded, but I am treating this as if he had murdered the father and son."

"We know that the administration is doing the maximum," he said. "But on the other hand, people are being killed because they are Jews. There is a rise of about 60% in anti-Semitism. This is a concern, not just for Jews but for all of France."

"Life in France will become more complicated," he added. "There is no magic solution and I have no complaint toward the government."

5. IDF: Assad Used Chemical Weapons
by Gil Ronen IDF: Assad Used Chemical Weapons

The head of the Research Section of Military Intelligence in the IDF, Brig. Gen. Itay Brun, said Tuesday at a conference held by the Institute for National Security Studies that there Bashar Assad's regime has used chemical weapons in Syria recently.

Several people were killed as a result of this, he said.

"To the best of our professional understanding, the regime has made use of deadly chemical weapons against the rebels in a number of incidents in the past few months," he said, referring to a March 19 incident in Aleppo province in which 31 people were killed, apparently by chemical agents.

Evidence could been seen in the physical symptoms suffered by those who had apparently been exposed to chemical agents, he said.

"The reduced pupils, the foam coming out of the mouth and other additional signs provide evidence that deadly chemical weapons have been used," he said, according to a transcript provided by the army.

"Which chemical weapons? Apparently sarin. The regime is also using chemical weapons that neutralize and are not fatal," he said.

"This is a matter that is very, very troublesome," he added. "Recently there has also been widespread use of surface to surface missiles, and Hizbullah is also taking part in this."

"There is a huge arsenal of chemical weapons in Syria," Brig. Gen. Brun said. "The developments are worrisome; the very use of chemical weapons without a suitable response from the world could signal that this is legitimate.

"How will this develop? That is a good question. We need to be very, very worried by the possibility that chemical weapons will reach less responsible elements, who answer to no one."

Regarding Iran, the officer said that it is currently under "unprecedented pressures."

"It is advancing in uranium enrichment, but not in other fields of the nuclear program. The scenario according to which Iran will reach a large deal, in the coming year, with the representatives of the international community, and give up its nuclear weapons ambition, is unlikely."

6. Yishai: Lapid is Right – We Took the Money
by Maayana Miskin Yishai: Lapid is Right – We Took the Money

Shas MK Eli Yishai responded Monday to Finance Minister Yair Lapid’sspeech in Knesset berating hareidi-religious MKs and accusing them of bearing responsibility for the deficit.

“I heard Lapid’s speech this evening,” Yishai wrote on Facebook. “I wanted to apologize to you, and to the entire nation: I am responsible for Israel’s deficit!”

“Over the course of the years I, my family, my friends and neighbors, and the entirety of hareidi society took money illegally from the public purse,” he wrote.

“Who do you think funded my trips abroad? The five-star hotels that all the hareidi Jews stay in? The Mercedes in the parking lot? It’s all at your expense,” he said sarcastically.

“Yair, my friend, your slick, arrogant speech has led me to confess everything,” he continued. “How did you manage to reveal so quickly what we tried to conceal, and to hide under various strange and inflated clauses related to defense, benefits for various industries and taxes and the like?”

“We almost got away with it, and then you came today and revealed that we are essentially the rich ones in the country,” he concluded.

7. "Did You Hear About the Boston Explosion? I Did That"
by Ari Soffer

The as-yet unidentified victim of a car-jacking by the two "Boston Bombers" has recounted his brief but harrowing time in the hands of Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, as the two brothers fled from US authorities. According to an FBI affidavit obtained by Reuters news agency, Dzhokar, the younger of the two, is said to have boasted openly of his roll in the attack, which killed 3 people and injured more than 130, many of them seriously. A week after the bombing, 50 people remain in hospital, at least 2 of them in critical condition.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev (19) is the only surviving suspect in those attacks, and is recovering from multiple gunshot wounds sustained during a gunbattle and high-speed chase in which his older brother Tamerlan (26) - and the suspected mastermind of the attack - was shot dead by police on Friday.

There is speculation that at least one of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's wounds was self-inflicted, a result of a botched suicide attempt as the young terrorist lay cornered in a boat in a residential area, during an intensive police manhunt to catch him. He is currently in a serious but stable condition under police custody in a Boston hospital, and is said to be responding to interrogation.

Spared because "he wasn't American"

According to the New York Times, which cited "a senior US government official", after seizing the car the two brothers forced their victim to withdraw money from an ATM machine, but promised him that they wouldn't kill him as he "was not American." The pair also apparently stated their attention to travel to New York, potentially corroborating police fears that they planned to commit further attacks.

Although American officials have been extremely cautious in assuming any motive, this apparent anti-American statement seems to fit in with extremist Islamist material posted by the brothers on social media, as well as apparent warnings by Russian intelligence agencies as far back as 2011 that Tamerlan Tsarnaev had become radicalized, and could be involved with terrorist activities. The FBI apparently interviewed him at the time, but concluded that there was no evidence to connect him to any illegal acts.

Iranian Spy Arrested with False Israeli Passport

An Iranian citizen has been arrested for spying on Israeli sites in an apparent search for a target, Channel 2 news reports. The man was found to be in possession of a false Israeli passport.

He had received the false passport in Malaysia and had successfully used it to enter Nepal and Sri Lanka.

He was seen by an Israeli as he spied on the Israeli embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal. He reportedly confessed to the suspicions against him.

Last year an Iranian agent was deported from India for spying on the Chabad House in Koregaon Park and other Jewish targets. Later in the year an Iranian spy ring was discovered in Turkey.

United States intelligence sources have reported that Iran may be spying on Israel from its northern border with Syria.
