Shalit se reunió con su familia en base del Ejército de Israel  

Al poco tiempo de haber sido liberado y traído de vuelta a
Israel, el soldado Gilad Shalit fue trasladado a la base de
Tel Nof de la Fuerza Aérea, en el centro del país, donde se
reunió con sus seres queridos.
El primer ministro, Biniamín Netanyahu, que también se
encontró con Shalit en la base y le dijo: "Bienvenido al Estado
de Israel. Es bueno tenerte en casa".
Poco después del mediodía, luego de ser liberado, Shalit fue
revisado por un equipo de médicos. El vocero del Ejército
de Defensa de Israel

(Tzáhal), general Yoav Mordejai dijo que su condición era "buena y estable". Shalit se bañó, se puso el uniforme de Tzáhal y habló con sus padres antes de volar hacia Tel Nof. El primer ministro dijo durante una ceremonia en la base de Tel Nof que la decisión de sellar un acuerdo con Hamás para liberar a Shalit fue difícil. "Como soldado, he ido a misiones peligrosas y siempre supe que si era hecho prisionero; el gobierno de Israel haría todo lo que estuviera en su poder para asegurar mi liberación, y eso
es precisamente lo que hice".

GILAD SHALIT: 5 Years Too Many

This weekend marks 5 years of Gilad Shalit being held in Hamas captivity.
On June 25th 2006, then-Corporal Gilad Shalit was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists from within Israeli territory and taken to the Gaza Strip. The kidnapping was part of an unprovoked attack which involved seven armed terrorists using a tunnel dug under the Israel-Gaza border. Gilad was 19 at the time of his abduction.
During the course of the attack, an IDF soldier, Staff Sergeant Pavel Slutzker, and an officer, Lieutenant Hanan Barak, were killed, while five others were wounded.

 

June 25th 2011 marks 5 years of Staff Sergeant Shalit’s captivity. For 5 years, Hamas has continued to deny Gilad his most basic humanitarian rights, including Red Cross access. For 5 years, his family has suffered greatly, waiting for his return.

The international community should act to end this intolerable situation. As Prime Minister Netanyahu stated (23 May 2011): “I think that the entire civilized community should join Israel and the United States and all of us in a simple demand from Hamas: Release Gilad Shalit.”
