Prior to his departure for the UN General Assembly Netanyahu attacked Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Mazen for his speech in the UN, also criticizing Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. "I will represent the citizens of Israel in every meeting and will stand against the slander and lies direct at our country", promised Netanyahu.
In his speech Abu Mazen called Israel's actions during Operation Protective Edge – "genocide" and said that "Israel is planning a second Nakba". A day earlier it was Iran's President, Hassan Rouhani, who took the stage and claimed that an agreement regarding the development of the Iranian nuclear program might serve as a key step leading to global cooperation.

"Following the Iranian President deceiving speech and Abu Mazen's incitement I will convey the truth of the Israeli citizens to the whole world", said Netanyahu prior to his departure to the UN.
Defense Minster Moshe (Bogie) Yaalon joined the attack on Abu Mazen, declaring that: "This is not a man of peace". "Time after time Abu Mazen continues to deceive the international community, sending false and racist accusation, while he hopes the threats and lies will scare us and cause us to back down", said Yaalon.
